I feel like I’m stranded on a plateau lately with my work and I don’t like it one bit. This is partly to do with what is going on in my life right now. Because I’m pulled in so many directions, it’s difficult to settle down and think clearly.But there’s more to it than that. For a while now I’ve been feeling I need to stretch myself creatively, and I’m really not sure where to go next.
Take Photoshop for instance. I haven’t been able to spend much time on it recently, so I made an attempt last night to do something different. This basically involved using the blur tool to smooth out the banding in the Leonardo drawing above. I could feel myself resisting the process though. Quite frankly, I’m fed up with effort, I just want results.
P.S. John came into the room as I was finishing this post and read it over my shoulder. His advice? To get off the damn plateau, just jump.

John is right!! I think we all end up where you are at right now. I am in a crabby mood because my work life is keeping me out of my studio. I am dying to jump back in, but am nervous about how things will turn out. I need to take the same advice and JUMP!!

I find I feel the most "stifled" when I am allowed the most freedom- I love the idea of being allowed to do whatever I please but truthfully when people aren't demanding specific things from me is when I tend to get overloaded with ideas and do nothing productive. It is nice when you people rally around you, expecting something from you- eager to see.
The one thing I learned from an instructor who taught me how to watercolor paint - be free, don't get hang up or worry too much with details.
I think that you can never go wrong with what you do...you just have to be less critical about your own work (which I know is hard for everyone).

I think you did wonderful work with photoshop there! The colouring is like a beautiful patina upon her face... i do love it :).
I think you have already jumped! Your portrait is stunning. The framing is amazing. The overall effect is fantastic.
How does the saying go....sometimes in life you have to jump and build your wngs on the way down...personally I always think of Wile E.Coyote everytime I write that(ala Road Runner fame) lol, but I still stand by its meaning.
I envy your Photo shop skills- its something I hope to learn this year. This looks so complicated to do.
